Handbook 1 "Urban neighborhoods - understanding the basic conditions and the initial situation grasp "(authors: Grates, Krön & Rüßler) deals thus, what conditions and structures in neighborhoods in which way can be collected to determine the initial situation of neighborhoods for neighborhood development processes capture. This is based in a special way the inventory, as was done in the QuartiersNETZ project. Of importance for the success of age-integrated neighborhood development processes are also certain (municipal) framework conditions. This is discussed with reference to the Ruhr area and the example of the city of Gelsenkirchen. It also explains why neighborhood development processes are currently underway be in the focus of politics, the public and science and what special Role here plays the demographic and social development. Furthermore it's about how neighborhoods can be delimited and selected for a neighborhood development process . In addition, it is discussed by which actors neighborhood development processes are often triggered and which actors are active on the ground. Manual 1 is aimed at research and practice-oriented readers, the insight into the framework conditions of neighborhood development processes and the methods for selecting a district and recording the starting situation want to get in neighborhoods to pick up proven strategies and therein be able to use their own action and development contexts.
