5S and Its Implications in Fashion and Textile Industry

5S is a systematic and visual approach to improve the working culture at the workplace. The implementation of the 5S has been seen central to increase the cleanliness in operational as well as office environment. Furthermore, this approach is a steppingstone to direct staff members to improve their capabilities and standardise the operational processes by using 5 stages of the methodology, from where the name has been derived. The 5S methodology is a very appropriate way to initiate and achieve the process of continual improvement. This chapter introduces the basic foundations of the 5S systems and its role in the workplace standardisation. By reviewing the previous published work, the book chapter has stated importance of the 5S approaches using a hypothetical case. The chapter further highlights the key areas the fashion and textile industries should focus on adopting 5S system in their organisations. In the last section of chapter managerial practices and appropriate mechanisms are discussed for successful implementation.
