It is increasingly common to acknowledge and recognize the influences and agencies of matter, but in what ways might creative spatial practices work with more subtle, barely visible, perceptible forces? In particular, how might qualities of air influence and inform creative processes? How do environmental qualities become integrated with thoughts, materials and artifacts?
This paper will develop ways in which the agencies of air become present in processes of making- thinking-feeling, and how the designing of and with air can become a foreground concern in creative spatial practices. These ideas are discussed through a collection of creative works, which I call studio sketches, where materials, ideas and forces are brought together to test possibilities for further development and refinement.
