Designing multiliteracies in 3D

chapter
posted on 2024-10-30, 20:22 authored by Julie Faulkner, Jude Ocean, Kathy JordanKathy Jordan
In this chapter, we explore the use of Green's (1988) 3D model as an underlying theoretical framework for a core course within a pre-service secondary school teacher education program at RMIT University. This course, called Designing Multiliteracies, is one of four core courses that students undertake along with four 'teaching method' courses. The retention of disciplinebased teaching method courses, while still common practice in secondary teacher education, works against the more integrated view of curriculum that underpins current curriculum policy and educational philosophies. Designing Multilteracies is an attempt to meet the need for an integrated, multiliterate and critical approach to curriculum thinking and design.
