The capstone research course in the Master of Teaching Practice degree at RMIT University is an opportunity for all students to engage in a transformative learning experience based upon student-centred pedagogy. Conducted at the conclusion of the postgraduate degree, the capstone research course allows students to engage in learning through experiential activities and research skills in a comprehensive, intensive project set around key teacher education themes. The course allows students to showcase their knowledge, skills, and abilities in a unique and individualized manner. The assessment is based upon authentic learning principles and aligns with professional teaching capabilities and skills. This chapter outlines the authentic assessments within the Master of Teaching Practice capstone research course in three areas explored by students: international and remote learning; STEM and 21st Century learning and cross-disciplinary learning in psychology and education. This chapter demonstrates how assessment was developed around these capstone research course projects in Australian teacher education and the authenticity of such assessment. It illustrates how authentic assessment models were built through collaboration with stakeholders in these areas and differentiated to allow students to develop and display their skills in a unique format. The chapter also provides valuable insights around authentic assessment in capstone research course projects in teacher education and may provide insights for higher education staff regardless of discipline.
