In this chapter, the authors present a quantitative analysis to examine the impact of ethnic diversity and discriminatory attitudes on the subjective wellbeing of older Chinese. Using data from the World Values Survey, they find a negative effect of ethnic diversity on wellbeing. The authors further focus on a wide range of measures that capture various dimensions of discriminatory attitudes and find evidence of a negative effect of discrimination on wellbeing.
