This chapter focusses on the forecasts for the future of work, the shortages and increased need for soft skills among university graduates and the broader working population. In these contexts, the increasing importance of career education in higher education is a crucial component. This research draws on an array of studies cited through a broad range of quality research and commentary. An overview of the resources available and innovations from the careers and employability service at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University is covered. Given this era of accelerated change as a result of the fourth industrial revolution, examples of what is being done at RMIT to place the increasing need for heightened skill training for graduates is a feature of this chapter. The future of work as a result of the impact of artificial intelligence and machine learning is also a vital aspect of this chapter.
