Performance analysis with an instrumented bowling ball

chapter
posted on 2024-10-30, 15:57 authored by L S Khang, Franz Fuss
Bowling, a typical skill sport, requires exact motion timing and control of finger forces. The latter, the reaction forces between the three fingers and the ball, were individually measured with an instrumented bowling ball in bowlers with different performance levels and in different shots. The results showed, that, in better bowlers, the duration of the forward swing is relatively higher, the peak forces are relatively larger, and the impulse is relatively higher during the forward swing, with a good correlation ofr > 0.7. The larger forces are attributed to the relatively stronger grip during the forward swing in better bowlers.
