This chapter focuses on an examination of succession planning processes in public and academic libraries in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. The exploration is based on research data from interviews with, and a survey of, library staff at all levels which indicated that succession planning is often little understood, and is a process which faces many challenges. Two case studies have been developed from the data to illustrate the two models - top-down and bottom-up - which are currently in place for conducting succession planning in Mekong Delta libraries. These models are in a state of flux as succession planning processes change and develop in response to a changing culture of management and leadership in Vietnam libraries. T.
