RESEARCH BACKGROUND: The 14 case studies provide a significant profile of an emerging cohort of experimental architecture practitioners across Victoria. Together they form a defining section in the book 'Momentum: New Victorian Architecture'. While the case studies were not subject to the blind review process used by scholarly publications, the works were nevertheless subject to peer assessment.
RESEARCH CONTRIBUTION: The case studies, taken together, form a sustained examination of emerging practices in Victorian architecture, particularly through the extended profiles of the work of several important architectural practices, contributing to the exposure of contemporary practices as well as expanded discourse in Australian architecture, creating a legacy for the next generation of practitioners.
RESEARCH SIGNIFICANCE: The Victorian State Government was the principal sponsor for 'Momentum' which is an enduring means of foregrounding the role of architecture in Victorian culture. It is published by The Miegunyah Press - a special imprint of Melbourne University Publishing that publishes prestigious books of the highest printing and design quality. The book was commissioned by Geoffrey London, the Victorian State Government and edited by a team of distinguished academics and practitioners from (Leon van Schaik) RMIT University, (Shane Murray) Monash University and Philip Goad (the University of Melbourne).
