RESEARCH BACKGROUND: Research activity in the architectural disciplines takes place both within and without the academy. In order to communicate with this broad community of research, not just to reflect upon developments occurring outside the university but also to interact effectively with that community, architectural researchers working in universities must publish their research in professional journals and magazines. While these publications do not subject submissions to the blind review process used by scholarly journals, all work submitted for publication by these outlets is nevertheless subject to peer assessment. Roland Snooks' writings in this portfolio of professional publications were published in: Architectural Design (Wiley), Architectural Review Asia Pacific (Niche Media); Architecture Australia (Niche Media); and Architect Victoria (Australian Institute of Architects). RESEARCH CONTRIBUTION: The writings collected in this portfolio comprise a series of theoretical arguments and reflections on practice that together demonstrates Snooks' larger research trajectory to develop and articulate a behavioural approach to architectural design that draws from the logic of swarm intelligence and operates through multi-agent algorithms. The writings situate his practice within a new architectural paradigm that has developed out of complexity theory, computation and emergent phenomena. RESEARCH SIGNIFICANCE: The reflections carried out in these shorter publications have formed the basis for several longer works, including the book 'Behavioral Formation: Volatile Design Processes and the Emergence of a Strange Specificity' (Actar, 2017), and multiple book chapters, scholarly journal articles, conference papers and textual works in international and local publications.
