This creative work contributes to a body of writing and research on Queensland. The Queensland Historical Atlas is the most significant collection of work to be published on the Queensland landscape to date. It positions itself at the forefront of new directions in the atlas form. More than 110 researchers have contributed to the online atlas funded by a three-year grant from the ARC 2007-2010. It now receives ongoing funding through the Centre for the Government of Queensland, Uni of Queensland. I was commissioned by Dr Marion Stell to create this work for the atlas 1. because of the scholarly research and writing I was undertaking at the time for my critically acclaimed memoir-cum-novel Bite Your Tongue (shortlisted for the 2012 Colin Roderick Literary Award) that explores a significant social/cultural juncture in Queensland's history, and 2. because of my creative contribution to the National Museum of Australia's Eternity Gallery (also curated by Dr Stell). The framework for this atlas is 14 themes ranging from conflict to curiosity to pleasure (themed creatively like Eternity). My essay, housed in Dreaming/Imagination is a significant contribution in both content and form to "How people have imagined Queensland". It gives refeshing insight into the remarkableness and place of the pineapple in this imagined state. This atlas is a refereed journal. Each article must demonstrate substantial scholarly activity, as evidenced by discussion of the relevant literature, an awareness of the history and antecedents of work described, and provided in a format that allows readers to trace sources of the work through other section. According to google analytics, this article has been viewed 675 times since it was uploaded, each user spending 2:01 mins on the page (ie enough time to read the whole article, above site average of 1:52). Top viewing countries are Australia, USA, UK, France, Philippines. Top viewing cities are Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Canberra.
