With the increasing demand for the globalization of education and the growing trend of knowledge economies, Higher Education Institutions are gradually transforming from teaching institutes to research-intensive institutions. They strive to remain up-to-date, relevant, and responsive to the needs of their stakeholders and society in general. Ironically, they are considered the core producers of knowledge yet they hold a massive amount of underutilized knowledge resources. Hence, the authors examined the relationship between knowledge management and the nexus between research and teaching and explored ways on how these resources can be utilized for learning. A conceptual framework, which integrates and illustrates the link between these two important theoretical concepts, is proposed. This framework is supported by features that can inform the system design of a Knowledge Management System for the Research-Teaching Nexus.
