A Truly Smart Airport Parking Solution

This paper presents a solution for smart airport parking systems developed for Gold Coast airport. The solution introduces an innovative way of integrating industry standard parking sensors with OpenALPR and IBM IoT cloud-based platform to address a number of challenges in airport parking management including ability to automatically detect vehicle plate number and vehicle model at each parking slot, ability to operate in both indoor and outdoor environment, fast and easy in deployment and at the same time being cost effective. Although the solution is developed for airport parking, it is fully applicable to other parking management problems.
