This paper, `An exegesis: from practice to theory and back again¿ will outline my reasons for pursuing a PhD and in so doing, it will highlight the process of self-reflexivity that resulted in a meta-cognition concerning the relationship between theory and practice. Firstly, I outline my background and it¿s relevance to my practice and theory. Secondly, I proceed with a brief overview of the thesis, it¿s key texts and context. Thirdly, I describe my personal trajectory in Britain and Australia and then go on describe a diasporic sensibility in the visual arts. Lastly, I conclude with a summary of my insights into the theory/practice nexus and provide some comments for those artists on the PhD road. The relationship between painting and it¿s contextualisation and significance is manifest by my two monographs.
