Measurements on the radio frequency occupation have revealed that large portions of the licensed spectrum are not used for significant periods of time. Therefore, in order to reach a more efficient utilization of the spectrum resources, the concept of cognitive radio (CR) has been developed and studied in the last ten years. The key element that enables CR is spectrum sensing that allows the secondary users (SUs) to collect information from the radio environment.
