The electricity demand is increasing every year and hence power networks need to be upgraded to cater that increase in the electricity demand. However, it is not economically feasible to upgrade the power network infrastructure to support the increasing electricity demand. This paper explores demand response (DR) strategies to overcome the problem of increased energy demand of customers to reduce the transformer loading using the electrical energy consumption data from smart meters. In this paper, preprocessed smart meter data is clustered and then demand response strategies are applied to the clusters. Results have shown that it can reduce the peak-demand at the distribution transformer and assist to flatten the transformer loading after applying the DR schemes.
