In order for computer programming students to acquire conceptual understanding as well as practical skills, it is important to follow a learning paradigm that includes a hands-on and practical approach. However, the traditional lecture format does not fully encourage active learning. While most students today own and use mobile devices (such as laptops), these devices are not obviously utilised as practical learning aids in lectures. This thesis evaluates the potential of a teaching approach delivers theoretical and practical components together in a lecture environment using students' mobile devices. It explores the potential enhancement of the learning experience of students in programming.
