Given the turbulent and dynamic business environment context, operational agility has increasingly become critical for survival and thriving of companies nowadays. This study attempts to explore the role of enterprise systems in organizations' operational agility since enterprise systems such as ERP, CRM, SCM are one of the most significant information technology investments and have become prevalent in most of businesses. Employing multiple cases study methodology the study conducted interview with 10 organizations in different industries in Vietnam. The findings reveal that Vietnamese market is going through a transitional time. Businesses are changing from traditional experience-based into knowledge-based business approach. Such changes require companies to equip themselves with advanced in-house decision support technologies like ES. ES enables companies in Vietnam to achieve operational agility by developing ES-enabled sensing capability and ES-enabled responding capability.
