lslanded Microgrids are an effective way to exploit the potential benefits of renewable electrical generation technologies in reducing greenhouse gas emissions within the Australian energy market. Islanded Microgrids need to be economically viable and demonstrate acceptable supply continuity. Analysis and design of such systems requires design optimisation tools tailored to Islanded operations. Using a generic system architecture, basic economic viability and design optimisation tool requirements are examined. Future research questions are identified.
