Nowadays, the conventional AC power grid is transforming rapidly with the introduction of renewable energy resources and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) links. HVDC links are efficient for long-distance transmission. For power systems with HVDC links, rotor angle stability is a crucial aspect in the system stability. This paper presents an overview of rotor angle stability analysis and control for hybrid AC/DC power systems with HVDC networks. Rotor angle stability analysis techniques for transient and small-signal stability are discussed in the paper. A detailed study on control strategies are also discussed for different types of network structures. According to the review, wide range of methods can be applied for rotor angle stability control, however all algorithms have their own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, best algorithm should be selected considering overall power network characteristics.
