This paper proposes a sensorless control technique for an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) based on the fundamental Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) excitation over a wide speed range. The method employs the measurement of the current derivatives at one inactive voltage vector and one active voltage vector during each PWM cycle. The rotor position and speed is estimated at PWM frequency. In addition, the pulse stretching scheme is developed for the proposed estimation method. Full system simulation was implemented to investigate the effectiveness the proposed method.
