Mick Peel, Academic and PhD candidate, together with Gedemin Peel and a select group of fashion design students from RMIT University, explore and express notions of movement and mobility in an urban setting. The exhibition presents varied responses from practical utility to creative poetics in the mediums of drawing, film and clothing. Aligning with Peel's PhD research, the 'Mobility' studio examines the tensions between creative exploration and advanced technical skills within the set parameters of movement, mobility and the urban condition. Individual works reveal fascinations with the painstaking craft of bespoke tailoring and obsessions with perfecting detail, fit, comfort, function and style: A triptych of hand tailored jackets designed specifically for bicycling functionality; a project that investigates 'the perfect pants' for the seated body; a series of fantastic urban scenarios that confront our complex relationships with urban life and serve as starting points for generating fashion design ideas.
