RESEARCH BACKGROUND The Museum of Lost Public Notices was a community noticeboard installation consisting of posters, using image and text, that explored and researched the role of art in relation to the individual and society. Contributions from local and international artists, from Europe, USA and HK, and from all stages of their careers were invited. Nearly 300 artists responded and were exhibited. The installation took the form of a community noticeboard wall covered in many posters. These were political, whimsical, humorous, imaginary, conceptual, collaborative, social, romantic, personal or otherwise. Artists were asked to contribute a poster relevant to their own research interests. Artist David Dellafiora, who is the organisor of Field Study international, was a co-curator. The exhibition was peer reviewed and selected upon application by Gallery director Sandra Bridie and the ctte at the George Paton at The University of Melbourne. RESEARCH CONTRIBUTION AND SIGNIFICANCE The range of artists who responded to the challenge of exhibiting included many international artists as well academics and students from three Melbourne Universities. As such there was much interest in its out come by many institutions and individuals.
