BACKGROUND Super Field is an exhibition highlighting the work of artists engaging with remote regions. In these places reside marginalised communities, extreme climate, endangered wilderness, and the corrosive effects of industrialisation. By bringing together artists working across the globe, SUPER FIELD demonstrates a range of complex social, economic and environmental issues affecting isolated communities and regions including climate change, war, tourism, poverty and industrialisation. CONTRIBUTION The composition builds on the work occurring in soundscape studies, acoustic ecology, sound art and environmental studies. It provides a unique insight into many national and international regions inaccessible to most people. Such works can provoke immediate and profound emotional responses from listeners. In this way, this work can enable diverse audiences to engage with endangered wilderness areas and to feel a sense of connection to the place - perhaps enhancing awareness of, and encouraging advocacy for, the environment in the process. SIGNIFICANCE SUPER FIELD transports us to places that we may never physically visit due to their remoteness. The Australian Alps, the Kimberley, the Arctic, Antarctica and the many international wilderness sites are places that demand time, resources and, often, established relationships to gain access. Through their creative responses, nineteen artists and researchers offered the opportunity to transcend time and space to explore and connect with these hard-to-reach places, so we might better understand the social, political and environmental challenges and complexities of remoteness. PEER REVIEW PROCESS The exhibition underwent an internal peer review process through a call for expressions offered by the Design Hub Gallery. It also received financial contributions by three French organisations including the Institut Français, Municipality of Toulouse and the Alliance Française in Australia.
