Background: The Today Your Love project comprised 14 discrete interdisciplinary art projects that were presented at West Space throughout 2011. These were developed as 'in proposition' style projects that encouraged risk-taking and experimentation. They were presented across diverse formats and durations according to the aims of each project. Significance: The Today Your Love project explored the myriad ways that contemporary artists approach practice. The project was designed to enable a more dynamic and responsive model for engaging with artists' practices, and was conceived as an incubator or laboratory that enabled space for artists to test and explore different ideas with a focus on the development phase as well as final presentation. Today Your Love received $38,500 in project funding from the Australia Council for the Arts through Presentation + Promotion. The project received strong audience attendance (around 6000 people across the year), with a number of the projects profiled in media such as The Age, Broadsheet, ThreeThousand and RRR. Contribution: Contemporary art is a broad and ever-expanding field of practices. In recognition of this, the Today Your Love project was intended to diversify the existing model for presenting artistic projects to enable other more innovative approaches to the commissioning and presenting of contemporary artworks. The project represented a significant contribution towards the development of new models for contemporary art programming, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary pratcies and a privledging of innovation and experimentation. The diversified model underpinning the project achieved strong support from the contemporary art sector for its ability to extend expected practices but also for enabling enabling a suite of leading-edge contemporary artworks to be created by talented professional contemporary artists.
