As part of an ongoing research project that involves interviewing people who work in script-related roles within the film and television industry, I travelled in May this year to Los Angeles. There, I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to spend some time with Christopher Vogler, a long-standing Hollywood story consultant and author of the hugely successful book The Writer¿s Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers. I wanted to share some of this interview with readers of the Journal of Screenwriting, not just because the material is interesting ¿ I hope you agree! ¿ but because it might be of value to those who are currently researching the film and television industry. In the interview, Vogler tells me about how he became interested in storytelling, his early days of working the story departments at various film studios, his work with Disney on several successful animation films, and how the success of his book has led to much work as a freelance story consultant, working with some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
