Business logistics performance measurement in the third-party logistics: an empirical analysis of the Australian courier firms

Business logistics performance measurement has become a popular topic for both managers and academics. In the third party logistics companies, the logistics performance directly influences both internal and external stakeholders / customers. Courier firm is an important model of third party logistics. The purpose of this paper is to present an empirically validated measurement model of logistics performance in the third-party logistics. All measures are validated by both academics and practitioners in a pilot study, before we circulate the questionnaires. Empirical data is collected through a web-based survey; total 162 responses are used to verify the measurement model of structural equation modeling. Results indicate that the logistics performance measurement has high reliability and validity in the study. This measurement model contributes to the business performance literature. It provides an insight into assess logistics performance in the postal / courier industry. In addition, the measures can be generalized for the different business management purposes.
