Much has been written about interactive video conferencing for learning and education. But few studies discuss the experiences of video conferencing as a possibility to resolve a schedule conflict at international conferences. Moreover, such discussions tend to focus on the quality of the learning experience and do not discuss the many challenges and activities that take place in order for the interactive session to take place. For an international event this typically requires coordination of the respective local technicians and several trial runs to ensure success at the crucial time, and even then during the live phase the transmission can be lost in a second. The following discusses video conferencing and presents a true case vignette of a series of events that took place prior to and during the 2005 Bled E-commerce Conference in order to identify the barriers and facilitators for effecting successful video conferencing.
