Doing it (un)like a lady: Rethinking gender in martial arts genre

journal contribution
posted on 2024-11-01, 04:22 authored by Catherine GomesCatherine Gomes
This article examines the relationship between martial arts cinema and femininity by questioning the canonical association the genre has with masculinity. In other words, this article re-examines the endemic correlation martial arts cinema has with masculinity by suggesting that the genre is equally, if not more so in recent years, predisposed toward feminine as it is to masculine associations. I question the current scholarship in this subject over three fundamental issues.
