The Syme tomb is a key work of the Australian Arts and Crafts movement. Designed by one its major architects in collaboration with the noted craft worker Mabel Young, the tomb expresses much of the ethos of the movement. In its symbolic content it may also be indicative of a dimension of Arts and Crafts architecture that has hitherto been largely ignored.
