King Hu's wuxia films are steeped in history, but it is not generally acknowledged that his films deal with politics and the concept of the nation. In fact, the historicism of the genre presupposes a close connection between history, the development of the nation, and politics. Such a connection is clearly evident in the wuxia films of King Hu, particularly the two films which he made in Taiwan, Dragon Gate Inn (1967) and A Touch of Zen
