Omega 3 fatty acids and the brain

journal contribution
posted on 2024-11-01, 01:13 authored by Andrew Sinclair, Richard Weisinger
The brain is an organ rich in lipids, which are involved in the structure and function of cell membranes. The glycerophospholipids in the brain contain a high proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). An emerging interest in treating neuropsychological disorders with omega 3 PUFA has led to clinical studies in this area and elucidation of the possible mechanisms of action of these PUFA.
