Recent developments of evolutionary structural optimization (ESO) and bidirectional evolutionary structural optimization (BESO) methods

This paper summarizes the authors' recent developments in ESO and bi-directional ESO (BESO), from the theoretical validation of the method, its applications in a variety of design optimization problems of con- tinuum structures, to computer software realization of topology optimization. The results clearly demonstrate the capability of ESO/BESO for solving a wide range of engineering design problems and its easy accessibility through well-established CAD environments to design practice of architecture and machinery.
