Although maritime security has been in the international research agenda for quite some time, how to enhance security while not jeopardizing organizational effectiveness requires further investigation. To this end, we place three cornerstones for the effective management of maritime security: quality management, risk management, and business continuity management. A conceptual model of 24 critical success factors is devised. The model was validated through a survey with maritime transport organizations in Singapore. Findings support that all proposed factors are valid and should be used to effectively manage maritime security.
