Australia does not have a constitutionally entrenched bill of rights. On present indications, there is no realistic prospect of the electorate being asked to approve the adoption of one by way of constitutional amendment. 1 On past experience, there is little likelihood that any such proposal would be able to command the necessary level of electoral support, even if it were put to the people in a referendum.
