A total of forty-six countries signed this Convention that included China, the USA and India which accounts for almost half of the world population and nearly 2/3 of world trade. The State parties continued to sign this Convention taking the total number of countries to that have signed to fifty-one. Unfortunately, Taiwan could not sign this Convention. However, the contributions of Taiwanese scholars and professionals were significant in this process. This paper presents an overview of this Convention with a view to give a general information about the application of this Convention. In the context of Taiwan, this paper also discusses strategies for reaping benefits of this Convention by both signatories and non-signatories of the Convention.
