Vietnam's trade policy: A developing nation assessment

Aim/Purpose - The purpose of this research is to identify and appraise the trade patterns, trade effects, trade policy and the effect of foreign aid on Vietnam as a developing country, striving for developed nation status. The overriding question stands as "is" Vietnam effectively moving towards developed nation status soon"? Background - This paper examines the history from the command economy transition to a market driven economy, current and future transition criteria and focuses on hurdles and challenges required of Vietnam as the country ascends to a developed country standing. Contribution - The findings will assist academic, business and government researchers, contributing to Vietnam's trade policies and strategic planning towards developed nation status, while providing additional insight into the business environment in Vietnam aiding market development.
