BACKGROUND: With a mainstage presentation in the Lawler Theatre (Southbank) and then a school gymnasium budget tourable version thereafter, this production relied on sound to transplant and support the rich design decisions of the creative team. http://www.mtc.com.au/plays-and-tickets/mainstage-2015/i-call-my-brothers/ CONTRIBUTION: This project was a means of creatively engaging students in a contemporary issue (terrorism, extermism and metal health and racial profiling). As part of VCE drama studies it explored the concept of abstraction as a theatrical device . The soundtrack was used to control the perceived mix of psychological headspaces, memory, imagination and reality. In the mainstage production, this objective was achieved through a relationship between video, props/set and audio. The challenge on tour was to identfy how sound might carry what was previously an intricate series of multimodal relationships. The opportuity this afforded was to explore he new relationships, logics and feelings were created when sound no longer had the structural support of light and the conceptual rationale of film. SIGNIFICANCE: Tis was a commission by MTC, Melbourne's premiere theatre company. ICMB was part of the Year 12 drama syllabus (teachers notes attached), and after the Melburne season went on a national 4 week tour of regional schools.
