Background: The composition produced for this exhibition was focused on capturing the effects of weather on the built environment which audiences experienced in situ through an augmented reality app. The concept behind the work was for audiences to experience the spatial and material properties of site rendered through recordings of a severe low pressure front. The artwork responds to sound artists such as Chris Watson (UK), Eric La Casa (France) and Francisco Lopez (Spain). Significance: The significance of this event can be measured by the quality of the venue in which it took place. The project was financially supported by the Australia Council for the Arts and the City of Port Phillip. Research: A Space Oddity explores the human condition in a contemporary world characterized by a sense of identity that is de-centered and multiple. In this expanding and contracting world our perceptions of space are continually challenged. While the screen has become a prominent way to engage in new ways of thinking about ourselves and the world there is still a human need for tangible engagement. The artists in this exhibition responded to a variety of real-world spaces as well as web based and augmented realities through performance, fantasy, interactions and site-specific works.
