BACKGROUND Officina Imperia - Resilient Imperia: Architectural and Landscape Projects for Urban and Environmental Regeneration was exhibited and publicly presented at the 15th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia July 2016. This exhibition was also exhibited and publicly presented/discussed in a related symposium in Imperia, Italy November 2016. CONTRIBUTION The exhibition contributes to architectural thinking and practice by demonstrating that architectural approach operates at both - and integrated - large scale visions of territorial transformation and smaller acupuncture interventions, testing cross-programming, reforestation scenarios and integration between built and open spaces, in order to attain environmental regeneration of urban and landscape conditions in decline. The exhibition also encourages an architectural approach that is strategically capable of operating between various operative fields, stakeholders and types of expertise. SIGNIFICANCE Officina Imperia was funded ($40,000) by the General Confederation of Italian Industry, and supported by Imperia Council, the Italian Institute of Architects and the School of Architecture of Polimi-Milan Polytechnic. It was exhibited and publicly presented upon invitation at the International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale (July 2016), which is the most prominent and significant event of architectural culture, and later was exhibited (November 2016) and discussed in a related symposium in the town of Imperia, Liguria, Italy. Both exhibitions and related events have been profiled in many international media reviews.
