The work relates to the field of sound installations within urban soundscape design. Other practitioners in the field include Max Neuhaus (Times Square), Bill Fontana (Sound Island) and Bernhard Leitner (Sonic Cylinder). This work contributes new knowledge by taking raw urban sounds and designing it as an intimate listening experience, thereby posing the question can urban noise be cast as a positive experience? The work takes the sounds of air-conditioners from the urban soundscape and turns them into a multi-channel design that immerses the listener in a soundscape that articulates urban sound issues in a creative context. Contemporary urban noise is a catastrophe to some, in that it is a homogenising sound experience that has replaced the diversity of the pre-urban spaces of Earth. This work reconsiders the raw energy of noise as potential. The work explored the role of urban noise as containing the potential to arouse new listening experiences within a controlled context. The work was selected as part of a peer review process to be part of the fluid states - performances of unknowing psi #21/2015 in Santorini, Greece from the 19-25 August. This is part of a highly repsected international Performance Study Orgnaistation called PSI (http://www.psi-web.org/).
