Background Dr Judith Glover and James Dutton were invited to produce a piece of work representing an aspect of Australian Design for the Melbourne Design Week show "How much can a Koala Bear". Dr Glover argues that Australian Object Design has a number of key themes- a reflection of landscape, place or narrative, humour, Modernist or Post-modern interpretations, Inventiveness, Practicality or Lifestyle This piece was a collaboration between Glover's ceramic expertise and Dutton's Furniture expertise. It specifically responds to a number of key themes outlined that Australian Design can or is about. It is a response to a particular place at a particular time. It was also an opportunity to develop a technique of 3D printing very fine Porcelain tubes which is a reflection of the designers' desire to be Inventive Contribution From an Industrial Design perspective the work investigates the viability and practicality of printing ceramic. This work shows it is possible to incorporate this technique and technology into studio batch production artefacts. The work contributes to an on-going discourse on 'What is Australian Design' but also advances the experimentation of 3D printing technologies with ceramics into lighting production Significance The first showing of this work was at the Melbourne Design Week exhibition "How much can a Koala Bear" https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/program/how-much-can-a-koala-bear/ https://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/art-and-design/m10cover-20180305-h0x10w.html Subsequently collaborator James Dutton entered the work into Vivid Décor and Design (2018) Lighting category and it was accepted as a finalist. Vivid is one of Australia's largest Design Events and the awards were judged by members of the Design media and current practitioners showing peer recognition of the quality and innovation of the work https://www.decordesignshow.com.au/vivid-finalists/#1496723786596-0f662ffa-e15a
