As an invited artist to this larger urban project instigated by 'The Projects' and situated in Federation Square, Melbourne, the art work engages with questions of the use of urban space and the role that design and art can play in the prompting of engagement and new activity within existing urban spaces. This work contributes to a larger urban agenda through the use and occupation of urban space. It provokes new ways for the public to use and engage in public space and events. In this instance it presents a landscape of artificial trees and images that offer up an extended idea of Christmas and the festivities that surround this time. Innovation comes through a process of reactivation of space whilst requiring minimal permanent intervention. The significance of this research can be understoood through an engagement with the general public. http://www.theweeklyreview.com.au/article-display/In-the-pines/4606
