BACKGROUND Lets do something in Italian contributes to the broad field of video art and the narrow field of performative video created within a public context. The work was made during an artistic residency in Prato, Italy 2015. The peer community includes Lauren Brincat (Australia) and Francis Alÿs (Belgian born, based in Mexico). Key characteristics of this scholarly debate include performative gestures enacted in public space and documented with video. Recent exhibitions that have influenced this debate include Framed Movements at ACCA (2014) and the 20th Biennale of Sydney (2016). Lets do something in Italian seeks to extend this field through a staged performance designed to enliven public space and convey a personal politic. CONTRIBUTION This Creative work is framed by the following research question: How can a filmed performative gesture enliven public space and express new forms of agency? In Dr Kosloff's video we see a young girl interrupting the flow of daily life on the streets of Prato with her confident drumming and a propositional banner that reads 'Lets so something' in Italian. This live event and subsequent video investigates play in the literal and figurative sense as being full of initiative and possibility. SIGNIFICANCE The Creative Work was commissioned for the exhibition 'Mind Craft' curated by Lisa Byrne and held at Artspace @ Realm gallery. This curated exhibition examined the creative possibilities of play in works by Charlie Sofo, Dr Larissa Hjorth, Michael Georgetti and Dr Kosloff. The exhibition included public artist talks and workshops related to the exhibition theme.
