Background My research explores the perverse interface between the human body and the contemporary media landscape. This research, develops on from a PhD on the topic of the abject body and technology completed in 2014. The broad field of this research is ‘art & technology’ and the narrow field is ‘representations of the body’. In addition the broad research context relates to the discourses of contemporary video art practice, in particular around notions of simulation, and the hyperreal. Contribution The work is included in the 59th Ann Arbor film festival. Made in 2019 pre-covid, the work is an exploration of the omnipresent 24/7 news cycle of human carnage and visceral bodies on screen. There is no other news content in the work or no news reporters, simply the constant flow of images of the internal human body presented as news content. The work connects specifically to discourses of the contemporary mediasphere and bodily abjection. Significance The Ann Arbor film festival is the oldest experimental, independent film festival in US, founded in 1963 and is highly regarded internationally as a significant event. The Festival in the past has screened the film work of Andy Warhol, Kenneth Anger and many other significant film makers. The festival receives more than 3000 submissions from 65 countries each year. In addition to my film screening in the festival, I was also involved in an online round table discussion of my work to an international audience along with a number of other international artists/film makers.
