RESEARCH BACKGROUND Edgoose's jewellery practice investigates ideas of containment and stacking; enclosure and disclosure; functional ambiguity; and how craft objects appear, inhabit and pertain to space. The Ring and Box series explores how the traditional craft object is perceived when it is part of an installation work rather than when it is worn, and how this may influence a viewer's perception of the ring and tap into memories and experiences. RESEARCH CONTRIBUTION The work incorporates titanium and niobium. The box was designed as a miniature scale sculpture and crafted new spatial relationships with the ring that challenged viewers to reflect on the function and purpose of the objects. Viewers could experience the work disconnected from its function as a wearable object to explore shared characteristics between jewellery and architecture beyond the physical body. RESEARCH SIGNIFICANCE Edgoose's research brings together art, craft, design and architecture to develop new ways of thinking about jewellery as an object and in terms of placement and display. It was included in Melbourne Now exhibition at the NGV which promoted public engagement with contemporary art in new and dynamic ways and provided a platform for presenting this conceptual jewellery collection. The work was included in the exhibition publication and three works were also purchased for the NGV permanent collection.
