David Thomas was invited to produce work at the Centre for Drawing as his work extends certain conventions of drawing and colour into time and space in both a playful and serious manner.
During the residency at UAL the monochrome was exploited as an interval or break in the world to assist in seeing what surrounds it. These works take the form of drawings, paintings photopaintings and/or installations that use duration and timing to reconcile differing visual languages and forms.
The residency enabled resolution of the series of the "Dogs of London" Series commenced in 2008-9 where photographs are layered with painted or drawn monochromes, timelines or circles as signifiers of time.
He completed works delivered a formal lecture to PG students at WCA. He included PG candidates in performative aspects of the project and presented a floor talk in the installation created during the residency.

New photographic series were made entitled: "Taking a line for a walk", "Taking a plane for a walk (the movement of colour in time and space)" and "Monochrome Portraits (Passing)".
