Community consultations have taken place in Honiara since 2015, as part of the Honiara Urban Resilience and Climate Action Plan. During this process, the HURCAP identified Wind Valley as an additional vulnerability ‘hotspot’ for assessment; to be conducted as part of the Climate Resilient Honiara (CRH) project. This involved a household and settlement survey, and local field work, to determine local climate vulnerabilities and to scope priority needs for the community. The community development plan integrates the findings from 4 different assessments: 1) household and settlement surveys, 2) community consultations to inform climate actions, 3) engineering solutions targeting local priority needs, and 4) geospatial mapping and analysis. It is intended that this development plan acts as a community guide for future development that strengthens the resilience of Wind Valley residents and infrastructure to current and future climate impacts.
