Human mixed mammary tumours are very rare. Given their rarity, large cohort studies are difficult. Interestingly, canine mixed mammary tumours (CMMTs) occur at a higher frequency. This study aimed to characterise CMMTs histopathologically, immunohistochemically and histochemically. CMMTs were found to be a potentially good model for human mixed mammary tumours.
